Set on the pristine Kafue River some 300km north of the majestic Victoria Falls, Kaingu Safari Lodge offers a magnificent safari experience in the heart of the African bush. Discover this paradise Livingstone never found with river cruises and walking safaris as the highlights of your stay. The river ensures that there is something for everyone to do. Fishing, bird watching, exploring the channels and islands and game watching are always special on a river like the Kafue. The Lodge is environment-friendly with the architecture of the entire camp and associated buildings designed to blend in and harmonize with the surroundings. Maximum use has been made of existing trees, rocky outcrops and topographical features in its layout and construction, thereby minimizing the impact on the original look and feel of the area.

The focal point of the Lodge is the thatched central boma with lounge, dining room and bar facilities overlooking the river. Situated on a high plateau, 1200 meters above sea level, Kaingu enjoys an all-year-round moderate climate as a getaway from civilization and the climatic extremes of Europe. The Lodge is accessible in all seasons with good road and air access. Our runway is closed during the peak rainy season, viz. December to March, but road transfers can be easily arranged.

Kaingu Safari Lodge is remote. After a long drive through the bush, which is already a safari in itself, you’ll arrive in a small paradise, set on the banks of the Kafue river. Discovering the lodge with its comfortable accommodation hidden in nature is something one just doesn’t expect in this pristine area. Tom Heinecken and his wife Viviane have built the lodge with a lot of patience, good taste and an extraordinary sense for detail. Their personal attention for every guest makes you feel at home instantly. This is a place to unwind, enjoy Elizabeth’s cuisine and be spoiled with an abundance of activities or, if you prefer, just relax and feel the heartbeat of Africa.

Kaingu Safari Lodge comprises of 4 Meru-style Safari tents with en-suite bathrooms and very special outside showers or bathrooms, as well as a family house with 2 bedrooms, a bathroom and an outside shower. Just like the Safari tents, the house has a beautiful deck overlooking the river. It’s a perfect spot for a couple with children, or a small group of friends.

Kaingu Safari Lodge wouldn’t be Kaingu Safari Lodge if we didn’t think about how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy all the beauty of this part of Africa. That is why we want our clients to know that for every bed night they spend at Kaingu, $ 10, and another $ 3 per night at the camping site go to community and conservation work.
Managing Director Tom Heinecken and Managing Partner Heiner Maag are both closely involved in community and conservation work, and decide together with the communities on which projects the money will be spent.
A few examples of their involvement are: Community Resource Board, the Kafue Operators Association and the Zambian Wildlife Authority (hunting quota setting and anti-poaching programs). Our partner Heiner Maag is also a trustee in the Dutch “Kaingu Stitching”, a trust operating from Holland in close collaboration with Kaingu Safari Lodge. The Dutch "Kaingu Stitching" together with the active participation of the local Kaingu Community has recently built a primary school with 3 class rooms, upgraded teacher houses, financed a bore hole and provided some sewing machines for the Ladies' Sewing Club. Follow us on Facebook under "Kaingu" for the inauguration pictures.
